Scope note
Refers to a style of Minoan pottery that developed around 1550 BCE. It is characterized by distinctive painted decoration, where the vessel is often divided into zones. Motifs are inspired by the borders of fresco painting and metalwork, including stylized double-headed axes, thick-rimmed spirals linked by tangents, and other geometric patterns. In later examples, motifs are arranged in strict alternation around the vase in an empty field.
